Winter 2021 Design Educators Typography Intensive: Branding

Please join us for the second Design Educators Typography Intensive (DETI) on Friday, January 22 and Saturday, January 23 from 9 AM to 4 PM PST. The focus of this DETI will be on branding and typography. Everyone is encouraged to sign up for as many modules as they like. The follow-up breakout classroom sessions are open to university-level design educators only. The program is free, with a suggested donation of $21.

The four modules include: Brand Typography Basics, Expanding the Brand Across All Media, Branding and Social Media, and The Generative Typographic Brand. Keynote speakers: Louise Fili, Vanessa Eckstein, Mike Abbink, and Dave Crossland; instructors: Simon Johnston, Rudy Manning, Aaron Draplin, Jotham Ndugga-Kabuye, and Roy Tatum; moderators: Gloria Kondrup, Ty Drake, and Brad Bartlett.

At the heart of DETI is this sharing of knowledge, as HMCT continues the legacy of its namesake, ArtCenter Professor Leah Hoffmitz Milken. Leah left her mark on students over the course of three decades of teaching, through her skilled tutelage in typography and visual problem solving, and inspiring future generations of “thinking designers.” Our motto for the event, Effective teaching should be shared, not a secret, aligns with the mission of the HMCT of elevating and advancing the teaching and understanding of both letterform design and typographic practice; and providing valuable support and service to the educational and professional communities.

All presentations will be recorded and uploaded to our youtube channel, where you can now review videorecordings of HMCT Summer 2020 DETI .
