Liron Lavi Turkenich, Israeli Type and Graphic designer, will present Aravrit, her project of creating hybrid letters by merging Hebrew and Arabic. Each new letter is composed of the top part of an Arabic letter and the bottom part of a Hebrew letter, “allowing people in Israel to read the language that they feel most comfortable with, without ignoring the other one, which is always present.”

After graduating from Shenkar College of Design in Tel Aviv (B.Des inVisual Communications), Turkenich received an MA in Typeface design at the University of Reading, UK. Her focus is on multilingual typeface design, and she specializes in Hebrew and Amharic. She also researches and writes for type design exhibitions, teaches typography, and participates in exhibitions, lectures and workshops internationally.

Turkenich’s presentation at HMCT will be followed by a discussion with Greg Lindy, Type Designer and ArtCenter faculty. The program is free and open to the public.
