STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS & FELLOWSHIPS

LHM Typography Scholarship

Each year, HMCT annually recognizes and awards ArtCenter College of Design students who excel at typography, as well as letterform, letterpress, and book design, based on the recommendations of ArtCenter Graphic Design Department faculty through the Leah Hoffmitz Milken Scholarship.

Dr. Stephen A. Kanter HMCT Endowed Scholarship

Dr. Stephen Kanter was a long-time patron of Archetype Press and an avid supporter and advisor to the HMCT. His gift reflects his love of typography, books, and the printed word, and his belief in the continuing impact of the programs and work that the HMCT is undertaking. Through his generous donation, the HMCT established the Dr. Stephen Kanter HMCT Endowed Scholarship, recognizing student excellence in typography and book design.

HMCT Typographer-in-Residence Fellowship

HMCT awards an annual fellowship engaging a graphic design student to work directly with the Center’s current typographer-in-residence, executive director, or creative director. Applicants must be ArtCenter undergraduate or graduate students, or recent alumni. Fellowships last for one twelve-week span within an ArtCenter term.

Interested students should contact HMCT for details.

2021/22 Typography Fellow: Ximena Amaya

As the 2021/22 Fellow for Mujeres Hispanas y Tipografía, Ximena Amaya designed the bilingual catalog based on the outcomes of the research and design projects produced by the five Typographers-in-Residence. Ximena was a 7th term ArtCenter Undergraduate Graphic Design (Gx) student at the time of the project; she now serves as HMCT’s Research and Typography Fellow.

EEDUCATOR OPPORTUNITIES

LHM International Educator Fellowship

In partnership with ArtCenter’s Graphic Design and Graduate Graphic Design programs, HMCT offers grants to educators teaching at the university level to expand and enhance their teaching pedagogy through a five-day residency. Chosen applicants are embedded in ArtCenter’s typography classes, where they observe, learn, and share.
