Design Diversity & Inclusion: Dr. Anastasios Maragiannis

Discussion: Design Diversity & Inclusion in the Age of Brexit with Dr. Anastasios Maragiannis of Greenwich University and Dr. Aaron Bruce, Vice President/Chief Diversity Officer of ArtCenter. Presentation will take place in the Graduate Graphic Design Studio of ArtCenter College, 5th Floor, 1111 Arroyo Seco, Pasadena.

There has been a great deal written about the impact of BREXIT in education, politics, finance, immigration and ethics. While the discussion is focusing on these key matters of our societies, there are limited or no discussions on creative industries and predominantly no significantly debate on how design diversity will be affected by this extraordinary change.

This talk will focus on design diversity and design inclusion and will try to re-imagine the shape of the nation, the city, the company, and the designer. How our practices can amplify, diversify, and mobilize this under-investigated aspect of practice and discourse; where design acts inclusively regardless of ethnicity, vulnerability, language, disability, gender, or age.

Designer, academic and researcher, Dr Anastasios Maragiannis has devoted his career to exploring and understanding the fundamentals of design diversity and inclusion, within the context of the digital landscape and a multidisciplinary approach to design thinking and typographic design. Anastasios is currently the Academic Portfolio Lead in the School of Design at the University of Greenwich, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts. He is also the Design Critique Lead for TypeThursday London. Anastasios has presented in a number of international conferences, curated a number of International design exhibitions and he has been showing his work in various places including the London Design Festival, and the V&A Museum, London.
