Space: On and off the page | Kenny Gravillis

Designer Kenny Gravillis presented an overview of his work on November 16, 2022. The recording of the event can be found on the HMCT YouTube channel.

Kenny was born and raised in East London. In 1987, he moved to New York City to pursue a career in graphic design. He quickly found his niche in the music industry, starting out in the art department at Def Jam Records. He designed classic album packages for Public Enemy, LL Cool J, and The Notorious B.I.G., to name a few. After five successful years at Def Jam, Kenny moved to MCA Records in Los Angeles, where he quickly became the Vice President of Creative Services.

In 2000, Kenny and his business partner, DeAnna, launched Gravillis Inc., a boutique design agency behind dozens of iconic movie posters, including recent Oscar-winning films such as Free SoloBlacKkKlansmanIf Beale Street Could Talk, and Bohemian Rhapsody. In June of 2018, Kenny became an official member of the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences in the Public Relations Branch. Besides film, he also loves all things football (soccer).

Moderated by Prof. Ty Drake, Faculty Director, Gx|MGx Spatial Graphics and hosted by Prof. Gloria Kondrup, HMCT Executive Director, this webinar presentation was part of our Fall ’22 Speaker Design Series in collaboration with ArtCenter Gx.
