From Ibn Muqla to the Bauhaus and Back: Yara Khoury Nammour will be giving a talk about the evolution of Arabic typography, tracing its journey from classical calligraphy to modern design systems. She will share insights from her own practice, discussing editorial design, bilinguality, and her perspective on teaching graphic design and typography.
Yara is a designer, educator, and researcher from Lebanon and an assistant professor of graphic design at the American University of Beirut (AUB). She leads the Arabic Type Research Unit that focuses on practice-based research and co-organizes the biennial Mashq conference at AUB that focuses on advancing Arabic type and its typography.
