Residencies

Once a year HMCT invites an artist, designer, researcher, or educator to apply for a four-week in-studio residency in Pasadena, California. This program is designed to support the development and continuation of a proposed project, allowing the resident to explore the significance of language and typography within their professional practice or personal research.

Residency Period

  • Duration: Four weeks to be scheduled between February–March 2027

  • Location: HMCT, ArtCenter College of Design, Pasadena, California

Residency Requirements

After the Residency

  • Deliver a public presentation (exhibition and/or talk) about the project process and outcome within two weeks upon completion of the residency.

  • Submit materials for a printed publication documenting the residency, to be designed and produced by HMCT. This includes images, captions, notes, and a clearly organized content outline, all due within two weeks of completing the residency.

  • If the resident plans to include texts such as essays or interviews in the publication, they must be delivered to HMCT no later than four weeks upon completion of the residency.
