In Conversation: Sandra García & Dafne Martínez (Tipastype)

Meet HMCT 2021 Typographers-in-Residence Sandra García & Dafne Martínez (Tipastype) at our In Conversation session with HMCT Executive Director, Gloria Kondrup, on Tuesday, February 16, 1–2 PM (PST). Their research topic focuses on learning to read and typeface design.

Research Topic: Learning to Read and Typeface Design

“This project began in 2019 when we made a field study of the typefaces used in educational books created by the Ministry of Education in Mexico for learning to read. These books are supposed to be suitable for children between the ages of 5 to 7. From this research, we realized some premises and details that would help to facilitate children’s learning in the process of reading. Under these concepts, we now plan to create a typeface with the same purpose: to better facilitate the ability of children to learn to read.”
