85_15: Typography_Past/ Present/Future traces the evolution of typography, beginning with the year 1930, the year ArtCenter was founded. Spanning eight decades of typographic practice, the exhibition was conceived as a “catalogue on the wall,” inviting visitors to remove printed pages and assemble their own book—a participatory record of the show itself. The installation brought together typographic technologies, printed works from each decade, a comprehensive index of typefaces released since 1930, examples of vernacular lettering, and projected statements about the future of communication. Video displays on legibility and transmedia typography expanded the view beyond print. Developed within the Fall 2015 Information Design course taught by Prof. Simon Johnston, the project was both a study and a celebration of typography’s ongoing transformation. |
