Cast and Recast: St. Louis Type Design Present and Past is a series of contemporary, politically-based type specimen posters created by twenty three St. Louis designers to champion a range of causes. Each poster uses a new digital revival of Geometric Italic, first designed in 1883 by Gustav Schoeder for St. Louis based Central Type Foundry. The revival of Geometric Italic was created for Cast and Recast by St. Louis-based type founder Ben Kiel, of Typefounding type foundry.

Posters were sold as a fundraiser for an art and design program in the Ferguson School district in response to events in Ferguson Missouri. Participants were proud that their poster sales could make a positive difference. This exhibition, as well as the accompanying exhibit on the history of St. Louis Type Foundries, including Central and Inland Type, was curated by Jennifer McKnight with support from University of Missouri, and Terry Suhre of Gallery 210, and Ben Kiel.
