Laurenz Brunner, the inaugural HMCT Typographer-in-Residence, presented Dictionary of the Illegible, a series of works documenting his ongoing research into abstract forms of writing. Reinterpreting found materials from art history to linguistics, musical notation to science fiction, Brunner shares an in-progress cartography of a radical typographic phenomena. Beyond word specification and with a strong emphasis on gestural expression, such signs offer a curious perspective onto potential typographic forms in a future landscape of communication interfaces.
