Joe Molloy (1944-2012) was a designer, typographer, educator, poet, and mid-century furniture collector. He received his BFA in Graphic Design from CalArts and later taught design and typography there. He also taught at UCLA, Otis, ArtCenter, and Loyola Marymount University. He designed the original curriculum for the Graphic Design program at UCLA Extension, later teaching there as well.

Joe's passion for type and design led him to start his own typesetting company. As good typesetting services for his projects in Los Angeles were difficult to find, he invested in German Berthold equipment and started Mondo Typo Inc. The typesetting service was used by some of the leading graphic designers in L.A.

Joe received numerous awards and recognition for his design and type projects. His clients included Getty Trust, Getty Conservation Institute, Frank Lloyd Gallery, McGraw-Hill, Ron Rezek, Igarashi, Suntory, Arts & Architecture Magazine, Richard Hertz, Taslimi Construction, and many others.

The HMCT collection includes stationery, booklets, posters, invitations, books, and other printed matter. All work was either designed by Joe, typeset by Mondo Typo, or both. Designers that Joe worked with include: Tracey Shiffman, Leah Hoffmitz, April Greiman, Deenie Yudell, Sheila de Bretteville, Sussman Preza, and more.
