Join us for the opening reception of ECAL: A Typographic Atlas, a traveling exhibition presenting 300 typefaces created by students at ECAL/University of Art and Design, Lausanne’s Master in Type Design and Bachelor in Graphic Design programs.
For its presentation at the HMCT Gallery, the exhibition is accompanied by work created by ArtCenter College of Design students in Font Design 1 and 2, taught by Greg Lindy over the past ten years.
An atlas of typefaces, ideas, and approaches to letterform design, this exhibition maps a wide-ranging landscape of contemporary typography, from functional text faces to experimental forms and writing systems.

Panel discussion: 6:00–7:00 PM

“The State of Type: Inside and Outside the Classroom”
As part of the exhibition opening, a panel discussion will bring together ECAL Director Alexis Georgacopoulos, two-time Grammy-nominated artist and graphic designer Brian Roettinger, and Greg Lindy, font design instructor at ArtCenter. The discussion will be moderated by ArtCenter typography instructor Pamela Olecki.
