ECAL A Typographic Atlas is a travelling exhibition presenting 300 typefaces created by students from ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne’s Master in Type Design and Bachelor in Graphic Design programmes. Developed from ECAL’s long-standing commitment to graphic and type design, the exhibition offers a broad view of contemporary type design, from experimental forms and visual research to functional type families and multi-script projects.

At HMCT, the exhibition is accompanied by work created by ArtCenter College of Design students in Font Design 1 and 2, taught by Greg Lindy over the past ten years.

Together, the two collections offer a glimpse into the role of education in shaping contemporary type design and the diverse ways letterforms can be developed and interpreted.

Organized through a single indexing system and presented in a modular display, ECAL A Typographic Atlas invites both specialists and general audiences to explore type design not simply as a system of letters, but as a practice that is simultaneously visual, cultural, and linguistic.
