Primarium: A Case for Cursive traces the global evolution of cursive writing. Through historical references, textbooks and contemporary typographic works, the exhibition explores how cursive has adapted to changes in culture, technology and education. The installation is based on the work renowned type designers including Veronika Burian and José Scaglione of the independent type foundry TypeTogether, who, together with other members of an internationally-based typography consortium, share their research into global handwriting instruction through their project Primarium.
Rather than framing it as a dying art, Primarium presents cursive as a living, evolving practice—one in which digital tools become collaborators in keeping its cultural, educational and cognitive relevance alive.
